FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AIRBUS CHOOSES OPENCUBE FOR ITS ON FLIGHT VIDEO INSTALLATIONS OpenCube Technologies announces that it will be working with Airbus on its networking video acquisition systems. TOULOUSE, France - February 25th 2008 - Airbus, the European aviation leader, is optimizing its test flights in Toulouse and has signed a partnership with OpenCube Technologies, a locally-based French company specialized in video/IT migration and with world-class expertise in HDTV systems, MXF implementation and metadata management. Airbus is seeking to enhance its test flight installations and chose OpenCube to implement its networking servers on the A320 and A340. From now on, video data during flights will be captured directly on digital equipment instead of the existing tape recorders. By integrating the new ingest system, Airbus is innovating in two ways: by adopting HDTV for better flight data image quality, and MPEG4 video encoding, the most powerful on the market. The system will use the highly-efficient MXF file format to transfer audio and video data as well as the aircraft flight data. The MXF file format wraps all these data and provides a powerful means of transporting, exchanging and exploiting high-resolution files (images/sound) with their descriptive metadata. OpenCube has a track record of successful partnerships with major broadcast industry manufacturers such as Panasonic, RTL in Germany and Sony Preservation FactoryTM, and was chosen by Airbus to contribute its expertise in workflow management in a "all-digital" environment.
